1992, Colorcycling
256 sheet A4, laser print on tracing paper
The Colorcycling books would not have been possible
without a PC, and they show processes observed on the
computer screen. To produce them, I reduced a colour
spectrum of 256 to 100 shades of grey, meaning that
156 colour registers are not allocated. In Colorcycling,
the colours rotate within the registers of the spectrum; in
each case, they move on one register, and as soon as
they have passed the end they are sent back to the
beginning. Since the visual elements remain attributed to
the different registers, the shade of colour alters with
every step; due to the empty registers, the initial form
appears fragmentary until the work has passed through
a full cycle.
