In the basic position the films show three arrangements of two shades of gray, which compose from Cyan, Magenta and Yellow, each in two shades. The slides can be swapped arbitrarily, but should always be arranged in such a way that the three colors work together and are represented horizontally too, again in two shades. Their color values summed would result in black in each direction – but indeed they can be arranged in thousands of combinations, which show up to nine of the twenty-seven intermediate tones.
